The Bundle of Sticks: An Aesop Fable About Unity and Teamwork

A Father had several Sons who were constantly arguing with one another. No matter how often he spoke to them about getting along, they refused to stop quarreling.

Wanting to teach them an unforgettable lesson, the Father came up with an idea.

One day, after another heated argument, he asked one of his Sons to bring him a bundle of sticks.

When the bundle was brought, the Father handed it to each Son in turn.

“Try to break it,” he said.

Each Son used all his strength, but none of them could snap the tightly tied bundle.

Then the Father untied the bundle and handed the sticks back, one at a time.

“Now break them.”

This time, each stick snapped easily.

The Father smiled and said,

“My Sons, this is the lesson I want you to remember. When you stand together and support one another, no one can easily defeat you. But if you keep fighting and dividing yourselves, you will be as weak as a single stick that can be broken with little effort.”

From that day on, the Sons understood the strength that comes from unity.

Moral: There is strength in unity. Working together makes us stronger than standing alone.
