Players: 7 or more
Location: Outdoors
Equipment: A ball and a wall
Monday, Tuesday is a fast-paced throwing and catching game that combines quick reactions, accuracy, and attention.
Setup
Each player chooses the name of a day of the week:
- Monday
- Tuesday
- Wednesday
- Thursday
- Friday
- Saturday
- Sunday
Players stand near a wall with one player holding the ball.
How to Play
The player with the ball throws it against the wall and calls out the name of one of the other players.
For example:
“Friday!”
As soon as the name is called:
- The player named Friday must try to catch the ball before it hits the ground.
- All the other players immediately run away.
If the Ball Is Caught
If Friday catches the ball before it touches the ground, they become the next thrower.
They throw the ball against the wall, call another day, and the game continues.
If the Ball Is Missed
If the ball touches the ground before Friday catches it:
- Friday retrieves the ball as quickly as possible.
- The other players continue moving away.
- Friday throws the ball at one of the runners.
Scoring
- If Friday successfully hits another player, the hit player becomes the next thrower.
- If Friday misses everyone, they receive a penalty point.
Players may agree on a limit, such as three or five penalty points. Once a player reaches the limit, they may be eliminated or perform a lighthearted forfeit.
Modern Variation
For safety, use a soft playground ball or foam ball.
Instead of throwing directly at players, the thrower can:
- Aim below the waist.
- Roll the ball.
- Tag players with the ball while holding it.
Skills Developed
- Catching ability
- Throwing accuracy
- Reaction speed
- Awareness
- Quick decision-making
Why It’s Fun
The excitement comes from not knowing whose name will be called next. One moment a player is standing still, and the next they must sprint, catch, or dodge. The mix of surprise, movement, and accuracy makes Monday, Tuesday an energetic and engaging group game.
